What Is ASYCUDA World?
ASYCUDA stands for Automated System for Customs Data. It is a world-class computerized customs management system developed by UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) and adopted by the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to streamline and automate the country’s customs operations.
ASYCUDA World is the latest and most advanced version of the platform, running in over 80 countries and territories worldwide. It handles everything from import and export declarations to transit procedures, duty calculation, and cargo tracking — all in one digital environment.
System Requirements
Before you begin, make sure your computer meets the following basic requirements:
| BROWSER A modern web browser — Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge recommended. | PDF VIEWER Adobe Reader (or equivalent) is required to view printouts and official customs reports. |
| JAVA RUNTIME Java 8 (JRE) must be installed and configured on your computer to run ASYCUDA World. | INTERNET A stable internet connection is essential since ASYCUDA World is fully cloud-based. |

Password Security — A Critical Note
Your ASYCUDA World password is like your ATM PIN — it is the key to your identity within the system. You must never share it with anyone, including your clearing agent.
| ⚠ Warning Sharing your password is a serious offence. If discovered, URA may institute criminal charges against you, and your company’s operations may be suspended from the system. Always keep your credentials strictly confidential. |
Appointing a Clearing Agent
As an importer or exporter, you may need the services of a licensed clearing agent to process declarations on your behalf. Here’s how to appoint one within the system:
| Find a Licensed Agent Visit the URA web portal at ura.go.ug to find the regularly updated list of licensed clearing agents in Uganda. |
| Make the Appointment Log into your ASYCUDA World portal account, go to Customs Agent Appointment → Customs Clearing Agent, and appoint your preferred agent. You can also view or deactivate agents from this section. |
| Agent Confirms Your appointed agent will log into ASYCUDA World and either accept or reject the appointment. Once confirmed, the agent can capture and submit declarations on your behalf. |
| Tip: Even after appointing an agent, YOU should make tax payments directly through the bank using your generated PRN (Payment Reference Number). It is strongly advised that importers make payments themselves rather than passing money to agents. |
